Nalanda Open University (NOU) has taken a progressive step toward improving academic support for its students by integrating advanced technology into its online counselling framework. The initiative was highlighted during a special workshop held for academic coordinators and faculty members, aimed at refining virtual counselling practices and ensuring better accessibility for distance learners.
NOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ravindra Kumar emphasized the need to modernize online academic counselling by adopting digital tools tailored for clarity and ease of access. Addressing the challenges faced by students—especially those from remote areas—he advocated the use of distinct, session-specific links for counselling classes to avoid confusion caused by generic access links.

Key Highlights of the Workshop:
Use of Dedicated Session Links: Unlike previous practices where a single link was used for multiple classes, NOU will now generate unique links for each session. This change is expected to reduce confusion among students and improve attendance and engagement.
Faculty Training: The workshop included hands-on sessions led by Amar Nath Pandey, course coordinator of NOU’s IT programs, on managing and conducting effective online classes. His demonstrations focused on real-time class coordination and efficient use of digital platforms.
Enhanced Support for Remote Learners: By streamlining its digital counselling systems, NOU aims to extend stronger academic support to students preparing for upcoming university examinations.
Closing Remarks: The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kiran Pandey, faculty member in the School of IT, underscoring the university's commitment to digital inclusion.
With these reforms, NOU is setting a precedent for how open universities can leverage technology to bridge educational gaps. This transformation is expected to make a meaningful impact on the academic success of thousands of students who depend on flexible and accessible learning systems.
