In a major step toward strengthening public education, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced the establishment of 570 new government schools across the state. The initiative, aimed at improving access to education in underserved areas, underscores the state government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable learning.

During a high-level review meeting, CM Reddy emphasized that these new schools will be set up in locations currently lacking government educational institutions. Each new school will cater to regions with at least 20 eligible students, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to attend a nearby school.

Focus on Access and Equity

The announcement comes amid growing demand for residential schools that offer free facilities such as meals, uniforms, and textbooks. The Chief Minister noted the increasing interest among students in residential institutions and proposed extending similar amenities to non-residential school students to encourage attendance and reduce dropout rates.

To optimize resources, CM Reddy instructed officials to rationalize enrollments in welfare department-run schools, including those for SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. This strategy is expected to improve administrative efficiency and ensure that each institution operates at full capacity.

Infrastructure, Skills, and Social Responsibility

The plan also includes a focus on infrastructure development in urban areas. The government will allocate land for schools within HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) and other municipal zones to address the challenges posed by rapid urbanization.

In addition to access, CM Reddy highlighted the importance of improving the quality of education. He called for the integration of communication skills and vocational training at the high school level to better prepare students for future challenges.

The Chief Minister also urged education officials to ensure 100% student enrollment and to instill a sense of social responsibility among children through curriculum and extracurricular activities.

Congress Government’s Priority: Education

Holding both the education and chief ministerial portfolios, CM Revanth Reddy reiterated that education and healthcare remain top priorities for the Congress-led state government. The initiative to set up 570 schools reflects a clear shift toward long-term educational reform, aiming to empower Telangana’s youth with quality learning and life skills.

What Lies Ahead

With over 11 lakh students currently enrolled in government schools across Telangana, this expansion is expected to further bridge the gap between urban and rural education. The state education department will soon begin identifying suitable locations, planning infrastructure, and deploying teachers for the new schools.

As Telangana moves forward with this transformative education push, the government’s bold step promises to redefine access, equity, and quality in the public education system.
