The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has expanded its flagship AI for All programme, introducing a new set of free artificial intelligence (AI) courses designed exclusively for schoolteachers across India.

The initiative, called AI for All 2.0, was formally launched on September 8, 2025, by IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti, in partnership with the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation and the Ministry of Education’s SWAYAM Plus platform.

New Course for K-12 Educators

Previously, the programme included five courses: AI in Physics, AI in Chemistry, AI in Accounting, Cricket Analytics with AI, and AI/ML with Python.

With the latest expansion, a sixth course – AI for Educators – has been introduced to help K-12 teachers integrate AI concepts into school classrooms.

The free courses range between 25 to 45 hours, with optional certification available through proctored exams at nominal charges. Registration is open until October 10, 2025.

Teachers as Catalysts of AI in Education

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Prof. Kamakoti said:

“K-12 teachers are a critical component of this transformation. By empowering them with AI skills, we enhance education and contribute to nation-building.”

Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, emphasized that no prior coding knowledge is required.

“A basic level of digital literacy is enough. These courses are NCRF-aligned, employability-oriented, and designed using real-world datasets and case studies,” he explained.

Inclusive Education Roundtable

The launch coincided with an Inclusive Education Roundtable held on September 1, 2025, at IIT Madras. Policymakers, technologists, and educators discussed strategies to expand digital learning access, especially for learners with disabilities.

Delegates also visited the Centre of Excellence at IIT Madras to explore assistive technologies developed by Prof. Srinivasa Chakravarthy and his research team.

Expanding Reach Through SWAYAM Plus

SWAYAM Plus currently offers over 430 courses across 15 sectors, with 3.7 lakh learners enrolled. Many of these courses are credit-aligned and peer-reviewed by IIT Madras faculty, ensuring academic quality.

By bringing AI education to teachers, IIT Madras aims to move beyond engineering and technical streams, extending AI learning opportunities to arts, commerce, science, and school education sectors nationwide.

For details and enrollment, teachers can visit the SWAYAM Plus portal or email pmu-sp@swayam2.ac.in
