In a significant step toward improving the quality of education in government schools, the Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) has launched a State-Level School Leadership Programme. The initiative aims to enhance the instructional and administrative capacities of headmasters and teachers across the state.

The programme is part of a broader effort to strengthen school leadership under the guidelines of the National Centre for School Leadership (NCSL), operating under the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).

Focus on Capacity Building and Peer Learning

The leadership programme is designed to provide government school educators with access to high-quality, peer-led training. The sessions will include both recorded and live-streamed lectures, showcasing teaching innovations and effective school leadership practices.

Each month, two live sessions will be held until March 2026, featuring selected teachers from primary to senior secondary levels. These sessions aim to foster a culture of excellence and innovation in the classroom by encouraging collaborative learning and the exchange of best practices.

Statewide Access to Model Teaching

As part of the programme, exemplary classroom lectures delivered by experienced educators will be recorded and distributed across the state. This video library will serve as a reference and training tool for thousands of teachers, particularly those in remote and underserved areas.

“This initiative will not only boost motivation among teachers but also create a bank of high-quality teaching content accessible to educators across Jharkhand,” said Kameshwar Singh, consultant at JCERT’s School Leadership Academy.

Role of School Heads in Driving Change

The programme also acknowledges the pivotal role of school leaders in driving systemic change. Headmasters will be encouraged to share administrative strategies and solutions to everyday school management challenges, fostering a learning environment that extends beyond the classroom.

Additionally, each participating school will appoint a nodal officer responsible for coordinating activities, collecting feedback, and uploading progress on JCERT’s portal for ongoing monitoring and impact analysis.

Aligning With National Educational Goals

This leadership programme aligns with national education goals, particularly those outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises the professional development of teachers and school leaders.

By equipping educators with leadership tools and pedagogical skills, Jharkhand is taking a concrete step towards improving student outcomes, promoting teacher accountability, and building a robust education ecosystem.

Conclusion

Through this initiative, JCERT hopes to nurture a new generation of educators who are not just teachers but mentors, administrators, and community leaders—ensuring quality education reaches every corner of the state.
