JNU Opens Applications for PhD Admissions 2025: Categories, Deadlines, and Key Dates

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has officially begun accepting online applications for PhD admissions for the academic year 2025–26. Aspiring scholars can apply via the university’s official portal, jnuee.jnu.ac.in, until 11:50 PM on July 7, 2025.

Admissions Categories

  • PhD admissions for this cycle will be conducted under three categories:

  • JRF-qualified candidates

  • NET-qualified candidates

  • GATE-qualified candidates (applicable only for the School of Engineering)


Each category requires a separate application. Applicants must fulfill both academic eligibility and hold valid scores in the corresponding national-level examinations. Candidates who do not meet these criteria will not be considered for admission.


Key Dates and Schedule

  • Application Deadline: July 7, 2025 (11:50 PM)

  • Application Editing Window: July 8–9, 2025

  • Viva Voce Invitations: Expected by July 18, 2025

  • Interview Dates: July 25–31, 2025


Merit List and Admission Process

  • First Merit List: August 11, 2025

  • Pre-enrolment and Fee Payment: August 11–13

  • Physical Verification: August 18–21

  • Second Merit List: August 29, 2025

  • Admission Formalities End: September 5, 2025

  • Third and Final Merit List (if needed): September 15

  • Final Verification Deadline: September 23

  • Last Date for Admission: September 30, 2025


Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 55% marks in Master’s or MPhil degree

  • Alternatively, 75% marks in a four-year Bachelor's degree

  • A 5% relaxation in marks is provided for candidates from reserved categories


Application Process

Candidates may apply for up to three PhD programs, but must submit separate applications for each qualifying category (JRF, NET, GATE). The process is entirely online, and applicants are advised to refer to the university's official e-Prospectus for detailed guidelines.
